The NEXT GENERATION SHORT TIGER programme of short films will have its premiere at Filmfest Dresden for the second year in a row. This year's jury members, commissioning editor Katrin Küchler (MDR short film magazine unicato), cinema-owner Dr. Christian Bräuer (CEO Yorck Kinogruppe) and director Matthias Luthardt selected nine shorts from 74 submissions for the 12th edition of the joint initiative between German Films and the FFA to promote young talents.  

Thanks to Its top-class programme of films and supporting events as well as numerous international professionals, the 34th Filmfest Dresden (April 6-10, 2022) is the ideal host for staging the premiere of the new short film programme. It will be held in the presence of the filmmakers and jury members at the Schauburg cinema on Saturday, April 9 at 16:00. 

"This year again sees NEXT GENERATION SHORT TIGER offering a diverse, colourful, politically committed and socially relevant line-up of films. Appearing on the big screen in Cannes will then be the next stop after a spectacular premiere in Dresden! Two outstanding platforms for our young talents to promote the award-winning short films in their creativity and transparency as well as to give them a boost in their visibility and innovation" says Simone Baumann, Managing Director of German Films.

"A knowledgeable and discerning audience of short films will once more be able to enjoy an excellent and diverse NEXT GENERATION SHORT TIGER programme at Filmfest Dresden," Frank Völkert, Deputy Board Member of the FFA, enthuses. "We hope that all the selected films and their moving, controversial  and thought-provoking stories have a successful premiere and much applause on their long journey through the cinemas of the world." 

The premiere in the Saxon capital will kick off the programme's international tour. Another highlight will follow shortly afterwards with the traditional cinema presentation at the Marché du Film of the Festival de Cannes on May 24. The nine films will then be screened at international festivals such as Warsaw as well as at the Festivals of German Films that are organised by German Films around the globe, including Buenos Aires, Paris, Rome and Madrid.

The selected films can be screened by registered users on the industry platforms Festivalscope Pro and T-Port after the premiere in Dresden. In addition, industry professionals can request a personal screening link from German Films (nextgeneration@german-films.de).
 
The joint initiative of NEXT GENERATION SHORT TIGER by German Films and FFA has existed since 2011. The criteria for the FFA Short Tiger are: maximum length of five minutes, entertaining and innovative, and particularly suitable for the cinema. A jury of experts decides on the winning films and awards prize money of € 5,000 to each film. NEXT GENERATION was initiated by German Films in 1997 to present young talents from German film schools on an international level. Submissions for the programme may not be any longer than 15 minutes. Entries may be submitted by German film schools, technical and art colleges with film training courses, while AG Kurzfilm can accept applications from the independent film scene.
