Six German films on the shortlist for the European Film Awards

The European Film Academy published the shortlist for the 38th European Film Awards.

67 outstanding feature-length films have been shortlisted for a possible nomination for the European Film Awards, voted for by the members of the European Film Academy. The shortlist includes 44 feature films, 15 documentary films and 8 animated feature films with 27 shortlisted films directed or co-directed by women. With 34 European – both EU and non-EU – countries represented, the list of the selected films reflects the excellency of European filmmaking demonstrating the variety, diversity and creativity throughout Europe - according to the European Film Academy

We are delighted that these six German films are on the shortlist.

  • MIRRORS NO. 3 (MIROIRS NO. 3) by Christian Petzold
  • RIEFENSTAHL by Andres Veiel
  • SILENT FRIEND by Ildikó Enyedi
  • SOUND OF FALLING (IN DIE SONNE SCHAUEN) by Mascha Schilinski
  • WHAT MARIELLE KNOWS (WAS MARIELLE WEISS) by Frédéric Hambalek
  • WITH HASAN IN GAZA by Kamal Aljafari

The nominations will be announced on November 18, 2025.   
The 38th European Film Awards will then take place on January 17, 2026, in Berlin.
The prestigious awards are annually presented jointly by the European Film Academy and European Film Academy Productions.
