Great success for German productions at the film festival in Tallinn

News

On Sunday, November 24, 2024, the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival came to an end. An impressive line-up of films was screened in the Estonian capital from November 8 - 24. There was also an extensive and interesting program at Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event. This year, of course, the German Focus was particularly special with many additional events.

We are also delighted to have received so many awards at the Tallinn Film Festival, the Youth And Children Film Festival Just Film and the Industry Event. Congratulations to all the German productions and co-productions that received awards at the Tallinn Film Festival.

An overview of the awards:

TALLINN BLACK NIGHTS FILM FESTIVAL

First Feature Competition
Best Film Award for NO DOGS ALLOWED by Steve Bache (Schiwago Film)

Jury statement: "Mr. Bache has made a movie for today (and tomorrow) dealing with one of the most taboo subjects in society: paedophilia via online grooming. But it is made with absolute sensitivity and vulnerability, thanks to the excellent cast and in particular the two lead characters. There are no clichés here and most importantly it is a film for every parent who thinks they know what their children are doing, often online in their own home. But in reality, they deny, ignore or rationalise 'this could not happen in my house'. But this makes this movie a must-see."

Rebels With A Cause Competition
Best Film Award for THE PROTECTED MEN (DIE GESCHÜTZTEN MÄNNER) by Irene von Alberti (Filmgalerie 451)

Jury statement: "An accessible film that immediately unravels the harsh reality of violence against women as the simplest of premises. When the male sexual desire is a threat towards men’s lives instead of women’s. Injecting comedy and satire as the antidote to the temptation of power that blinds us to the extreme consequences of unresolved hatred."

Shorts New Talents Competition: Animation
Best Film Award for CARROTICA by Daniel Sterlin-Altman (Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF)

Jury Statement: "The film won our heart with a warm coming of age story with erotic elements. It skilfully combines the perspective of a son and his mother in moments of secret desire and insecurity while it celebrates emotions in a very humorous way. Scenes from every day life go together with surrealistic aspects in which carrots become objects of desire. We loved the clever usage of technique and design while staying fresh and surprising."

JUST FILM

Juniors Competition
Just Film Toddler’s Jury Best Film Award for NIKO – BEYOND THE NORTHERN LIGHTS by Kari Juusonen, Jørgen Lerdam (FI/DE/DK/IE, Ulysses Filmproduktion)

Jury statement: This film taught us about friendship, kindness, teamwork, and the importance of always being there to help your friends!
