German production ONE LAST EVENING by Lukas Nathrath opens the International Panorama - Focus Germany section of the 25th Shanghai International Film Festival

News

The 25th Shanghai International Film Festival 2023 kicks off its International Panorama - Focus Germany section with ONE LAST EVENING by Lukas Nathrath. From June 9 - 18, numerous other German productions will also be screened in the sections of the A-list festival, which is finally returning this year after only being held on a small scale in 2020/21 and cancelled in 2022 due to the pandemic.

In Locarno 2022 and Rotterdam 2023, director Lukas Nathrath was already able to inspire the local audiences with his tragicomedy. Now, he will be able to present his first feature film ONE LAST EVENING (Klinkerfilm, Doppelbauer & Nathrath Filmproduktion) on location in Shanghai. His cinematic story takes the viewer into the recent past: In the standstill of the pandemic summer, a young couple wants to move from Hanover to Berlin. To say goodbye, they are throwing a farewell dinner. But some good friends cancel — and uninvited guests show up. Soon, secret longings, misunderstandings and human abysses of the privileged dinner guests are revealed. Everyone is fighting only for themselves: a “bubble” that seems to have everything and yet threatens to despair of itself.

Also screening in the International Panorama - Focus Germany section will be, among others, A STASI COMEDY by Leander Hausmann (UFA Fiction, Constantin Film), DISTANCE by Lars Knorrn (Distanz Film, Carny Film) and MUSIC by Angela Schanelec (Faktura Film).

This year's documentary section SIFF DOC features five films with German participation. Among them is KASH KASH - WITHOUT FEATHERS WE CAN'T LIVE by Lea Najjar (FFL Film- und Fernseh-Labor Ludwigsburg), which has already been screened at numerous documentary film festivals. Another one in this section is NO, I DO by Claudia Sárkány, which will celebrate its world premiere in Shanghai.
