German films and co-productions well represented at Busan International Film Festival
The Busan International Film Festival has grown from Korea's first international film festival to the largest film festival in Korea. For its 30th anniversary this year, 241 films from 64 countries have been selected to be shown in seven cinemas during the ten days of the festival.
At the end of August, SOUND OF FALLING was selected as the German Oscar® candidate. After the film celebrates its North American premiere in Toronto, South Korean audiences will also have the opportunity to discover director Mascha Schilinski's generational drama. The film is programmed in the World Cinema section, which also features the German productions DRY LEAF by Alexandre Koberidze, ISLANDS by Jan-Ole Gerster, NO BEAST. SO FIERCE by Burhan Qurbani, and PHANTOMS OF JULY by Julian Radlmaier. Of the 21 films in the World Cinema section, six have German involvement.
The Icons section features numerous German productions and co-productions that have also already attracted attention at prestigious festivals this year. These include MIRRORS NO. 3 by Christian Petzold (world premiere in Cannes) and SILENT FRIEND by Ildiko Enyedi, which will be screened in competition in Venice in the coming days.
