The 56th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival will be held this year from 1 - 9 July, 2022. The popular summer festival’s line-up includes two German films in competition as well as several German co-productions. A total of four German films and 15 co-productions will be shown at the festival in Karlovy Vary. 

The Crystal Globe Competition section of the renowned and most important festival in Central and Eastern Europe will present THE ORDINARIES by Sophie Linnenbaum (Bandenfilm). Her feature film debut focuses on the "we" of our contemporary society, who are defined more than ever by the emphasis on cultural commonalities and the demarcation from the so-called "other".

The co-production A ROOM OF MY OWN by Ioseb "Soso" Bliadze (DE/GE, Color of May) will also have its world premiere in the Crystal Globe Competition section. Tina, a young woman who has lost her way in life, rents a room from the vivacious Megi. It is all thanks to her that she gradually discovers what it is like to be free and make her own decisions without being dependent on men. The film portrays millennials in contemporary Tbilisi and points to the influence of patriarchal thinking on Georgian society.

There will also be screenings of the German films FIRST WORK, THEN PLAY by Brenda Lien in Future Frames: Generation Next Of Europe Cinema, AXIOM by Jöns Jönsson (Bon Voyage Films) in Horizons, and COME WITH ME TO THE CINEMA - THE GREGORS by Alice Agneskirchner (Ehlermann & Agneskirchner Filmproduktion) in Out Of The Past.
