Over the past two weeks, the festival program has been announced section by section. Today, Tuesday, the final outstanding sections were revealed. As a major audience festival and an important launchpad for the international autumn and awards season, TIFF combines high-profile premieres with a wide-ranging public program. This year, it is also expanding its industry activities for the first time with the newly established TIFF Market.

German productions and co-productions feature prominently in the program. The Centrepiece section includes the majority German productions EVERYTIME by Sandra Wollner and THE DREAMED ADVENTURE by Valeska Grisebach. Both films celebrated their world premieres in Cannes.

The Discovery section presents first and second feature films by emerging directors from around the world and is regarded as an important springboard for new international voices. Two German productions will celebrate their world premieres in the section this year.

Inspired by true events, Tony Vahl’s directorial debut KRUX tells the dark story of a small village in north-eastern Germany at the end of the Second World War, when the Nazi regime ordered its residents to leave nothing alive for the approaching enemy to find. Director Katharina Rabl’s debut film MEMORIES OF A FOREST follows Frieda, who returns to her home village after the death of her grandmother and finds herself confronted with unspoken expectations.

The Primetime section will feature a notable premiere: David Nawrath’s series BLINDSPOT BERLIN marks another German series in the festival program, following 1899 by showrunners Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, and will celebrate its world premiere in Toronto. The six-part thriller miniseries examines the Islamist terrorist attack on the Berlin Christmas market on December19, 2016.

Two German short films have been selected for the Wavelengths Short section. Kamal Aljafari’s MASAO ADACHI TAKES A PASSPORT PHOTO centres on its two protagonists, the photographer and the person being photographed, and the individual backgrounds they bring to the creation of a passport photograph. In the 16-minute essay film THIS SUFFOCATING NOW, Vika Kirchenbauer combines personal observations, historical references and reflections on her own social advancement in a critical examination of state violence and areas of conflict in contemporary Germany.
Angela Schanelec's MY WIFE CRIES will be screened in the Wavelenghts section for feature films. The drama had its world premiere at this year's Berlinale.

This year, the 53rd Student Academy Awards® will also be presented for the first time as part of the Toronto International Film Festival. A film from Germany is among the finalists: Matthias Strasser of the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg is one of three nominees in the Animation category with his film THE PANIC INSIDE. The film centres on a person who constantly tries to please everyone and combines 2D and 3D animation with live-action elements. The awards ceremony will take place on September 14, 2026.

With TIFF: The Market, taking place from September 10 to 16, 2026, the Toronto International Film Festival will host an independent official content market for the first time. Through market screenings, exhibition spaces, pitching sessions, industry events and targeted co-production meetings, TIFF aims to strengthen its role as a central interface between international cinema and the North American market. A total of eight world sales companies will participate in this year’s Europe!Hub, five of them from Germany.
