KINO! FILM SALON: GOLD BY THOMAS ARSLAN

The focus of the next session for the English-language KINO! FILM SALON online film club on 12 November, 2022 will be on Jakob Schreier's GOLD.

The drama celebrated its world premiere as part of the Official Competition of the Berlin International Film Festival in 2013. The cast is led by Germany’s most prestigious actress Nina Hoss who appears in this film in her first role in a German western.

Our film curator Jim Kolmar selected this movie: “Thomas Arslan’s stately Western unfolds with the grace of the classics, as enamored of the rugged mountain landscapes as it is fearful of the potential challenges they contain. Starring the luminous Nina Hoss, GOLD is a stark, tightly controlled exploration of genre tropes, following the journey of a group of German settlers using a visual language that is both intimate and epic.  As with the great canonical Westerns, GOLD seethes with metaphorical promise, trusting us to accompany the lush storytelling into territory both known and unknown.

RSVP: https://bit.ly/kinofilmsalongold

Date and time: Sunday, November 13 at 11am - 12pm PT, 2pm - 3pm ET, 8pm - 9pm CET.
Hosted by Jim Kolmar

KINO! FILM SALON is a production of Telescope Film, in collaboration with the German Film Office.

A very special focus was prepared for Laila Stieler, who presented RABIYE KURNAZ VS. GEORGE W. BUSH (opening film) as well as GUNDERMANN and LOVE LIFE to the Parisian audience with one lively Q&A after another. The diverse programme brought even more guests to Paris, including Moritz von Treuenfels, who presented Jöns Jönsson’s film AXIOM which subsequently became the festival audience’s favourite. In addition, we were able to invite the director Kilian Riedhof, who was joined by the screenwriter Jan Braren for the screening of YOU WILL NOT HAVE MY HATE by the French distributor Haut et Court for the very first time to a French audience. We had another well-attended screening this year with the Next Generation Short Tiger programme of short films. Laurenz Otto, the director of AGAINST ALL ODDS presented his film and the programme.
