GERMAN FILMS IN VENICE 2023

The 80th Venice International Film Festival took place this year from August 30 to  September 9. German Films was involved in the third edition of the Venice Production Bridge this time, as Germany was in focus together with Quebec at the VPB.

GERMAN FILMS IN TORONTO 2023

At the Toronto International Film Festival, German Films welcomed numerous industry delegates at the German Reception. A total of 14 German productions and co-productions were screened in the sections of the Festival, including three world premieres.

ISTINA WINS AT STUDENT ACADEMY AWARDS®

Great success for ISTINA (TRUTH) by Tamara Denić. The graduation film by a team of students from Hamburg Media School has won at this year’s 50th edition of the Student Academy Awards®.

EUROPEAN FILM AWARDS: THREE GERMAN FILMS ON THE SHORTLIST

The German productions AFIRE by Christian Petzold,THE TEACHERS’ LOUNGE by IlkerÇatak,as well as Timm Kröger's THE UNIVERSAL THEORY have been selected for this year’s European Film Awards Feature Film Selection. The award ceremony will take place on December 9 in Berlin.

28TH EDITION OF THE FESTIVAL DU CINÉMA ALLEMAND

The 28th edition of the Festival du Cinéma Allemand will take place from October 11-15 this year. The Paris-based event will open with a screening of the German entry for the Oscars® 2024, THE TEACHERS' LOUNGE by İlker Çatak.

FESTIVAL OF GERMAN FILM IN BUENOS AIRES 2023

The 23rd edition of the Festival de Cine Alemàn in Argentina was a great success, with a total of 3.867 visitors attending the screenings in the Cinepolis cinemas.

DOK PREVIEW GERMANY PROJECT SELECTION 2023

DOK Preview Germany offers a first glimpse to discover new German film projects poised for an international audience. It will take place on October 9, 2023 during DOK Leipzig, the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film.

GERMAN FILMS IN TOULOUSE 2023

Cartoon Forum took place from September 18 -21, 2023 in France. Producers from over 500 companies pitched their projects in front of over 1.000 international broadcasters, investors, and other potential partners from 37 countries, with 270 buyers on site in Toulouse.

AJB DOC Main Award for WHEN SPRING CAME TO BUCHA
At the 6th Al Jazeera Balkans Documentary Film Festival, directors Mila Teshaieva and Marcus Lenz were awarded the main award for WHEN SPRING CAME TO BUCHA. The jury praised the documentary about the war in Ukraine for depicting a true human tragedy in a very emotional, realistic, sensitive and subtle way. 

 

Wim Wenders will receive the Lumière Award
The 15th edition of the Lumière film festival will take place from October 14-22, 2023 in Lyon. This year, the German filmmaker Wim Wenders will receive the Lumière Award. The Award was created by Thierry Frémaux to recognise a leading figure for his or her entire body of work and pivotal role in the history of cinema. 

 

Rendez-vous: French-German Filmmeeting in Paris
German Films, Unifrance and the Franco-German Film Academy invite to the 21st Franco-German Film Meeting on October 10 and 11, 2023 at the Goethe-Institut in Paris. This year's edition of the Rendez-vous will be attended by about 200 participants from production and the film industry.

 

Focus Germany: German Films supports the Festival Cine por Mujeres Madrid
This year, the Focus Section of the Festival Cine por Mujeres Madrid (October 24 - November 5, 2023) will be dedicated to German cinema, with the intention of giving visibility to the talent of its women professionals and transmitting their vision of the world to the attending audience, as well as facilitating their encounter with Spanish experts. German Films will support the program together with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Goethe-Institut in Madrid.

 

Clermont-Ferrand 2024: Submission Of Short Films And Co-Production Projects
The final deadline for short film submissions to the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival 2024 is on October 3, 2023.  For the 16th time, the European co-production forum Euro Connection will be held during the festival on February 6 and 7, 2024. Submissions are welcomed from short film projects up to 30 minutes (animation, feature film, documentary, VR) that are planned as international co-productions, have already secured part of the financing, and will not start shooting before June 2024. The contact for submissions from Germany is the AG Kurzfilm – German Short Film Association. Further information here.
The Euro Connection deadline is on October 20, 2023.
