KINO! FILM SALON: EVER AFTER by Carolina Hellsgård

The focus of the next session for the English-language KINO! FILM SALON online film club on August 14th will be on Carolina Hellsgård’s EVER AFTER (ENDZEIT).

Our film curator Jim Kolmar selected this movie: „Two years before the pandemic, Carolina Hellsgård’s remarkable feminist zombie opus, EVER AFTER, declares that “a plague has descended upon Earth”. This startlingly prophetic film is rich with potent themes from a genre that has always been smarter than its place in pop culture suggests.
A masterclass in resourceful filmmaking, EVER AFTER easily navigates the terrain between the intimate and the epic, punctuated with moments of gleefully shocking violence and  unexpected tenderness.  Despite locating itself squarely in familiar genre territory, EVER AFTER is entirely its own thing, and, in light of our collective recent past, chillingly portends how easily things can come apart, and how things might look in the aftermath.“
And Jim Slotek (Original Cin) also likes the film: „A fresh, beautifully filmed take on the zombie genre from director Hellsgård, adapted from the comic by Olivia Vieweg (who also wrote the script), with women in every key role, both in front of and behind the camera.“
