GERMAN FILMS PREVIEWS 2023 IN POTSDAM

The German Films Previews (GFP) took place this year from July 5 to 8, 2023 in Potsdam. Every year, German Films invites international distributors and world sales companies that have German films in their program to this three-day trade show to negotiate the sale of new German theatrical films.

GERMAN FILMS AT VENICE PRODUCTIOIN BRIDGE

The third edition of the Venice Production Bridge at the Venice International Film Festival 2023 will present two focuses, a European one (Germany) and an international one (Quebec). German Films will be joining forces with SODEC Quebec and will host several events, including a panel discussion with director Edward Berger and Canadian director Philippe Falardeau.

IRANIAN DIRECTOR ALI AHMADZADEH IS NOT ALLOWED TO COME TO LOCARNO

The Iranian director Ali Ahmadzadeh is not allowed to leave his home country by order of the state. Actually, his film CRITICAL ZONE, a German-Iranian co-production, was supposed to take part in the Locarno Film Festival next week.

The initiative MunichFilmUp! sees the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF) supporting six debut feature projects on the basis of a treatment in cooperation with the Filmschoolfest Munich and the Filmfest München and as part of a partnership with the Pop Up Film Residency. Filmmakers can apply up until September 1, 2023.

THE ORDINARIES Wins 2023 Cinedays in North Macedonia
The German film THE ORDINARIES directed by Sophie Linnenbaum won the Golden Star in the Official Competition of the 22nd Cinedays Festival of European Film, which took place in Skopje July 13 to 18, 2023. Sophie Linnenbaum and Michael Fetter Nathansky also won the Blue Star for Best Screenplay.

 

SULTANA'S DREAM in competition section in San Sebastian
The Spanish-German co-production SULTANA'S DREAM was accepted in the main competition of San Sebastian. It is the first time ever in the history of the festival that an animated film has entered the main competition. You can see a glimpse of SULTANA'S DREAM in our Animation Showreel.

 

Two productions by German directors in Montreal
The two German productions POTATO FALLS by Janina Putzker (The Cabaret of Curiosities section) and I’M NOT AFRAID! by Marita Mayer (My First Fantasia section) will take part in the competition at Fantasia International Film Festival Montreal.

 

BACKGROUND wins competition in Marseilles
The German production BACKGROUND by Khaled Abdulwahed won the Prix George de Beauregard International in the Competition International at Le Palmarès De La 34e Édition.

 

Two Awards for AFIRE in Palić 
The 30th edition of the European Film Festival Palić awarded its top prize Best Film to Germany’s AFIRE by Christian Petzold. The drama also won the FIPRESCI Award.
