Prize-winning films from Germany

German films were among the winners at the festivals in Biarritz, Angers and Park City

  • Two German films were among the prize-winners at the 15th international TV festival FIPA in Biarritz (22. - 27.01.02): Christian Petzold received the Fipa d'Or for Best Script in the "Feature Film" section for his film TOTER MANN (production company: Teamworx, Berlin) which had been premiered to acclaim at the Hof Film Days last October. And the HFF/B graduate Rick Minnich received with unanimity the Fipa d'Or for Best Film in the "Reportage" section for his documentary HEAVEN ON EARTH about "the new Nashville", Branson in Missouri. In addition, HEAVEN ON EARTH was awarded a Special Mention by the "Jury des Jeunes de l'Union Européenne" (production company: HFF "Konrad Wolf", Potsdam).
  • The 14th "Premiers Plans" international short film festival in Angers (18. - 27.01.02) saw the Prix Canal + in the section "Films of European film schools" going to Jan Krueger's short FREUNDE (THE WHIZ KIDS). The film, which was made at the Academy of Media Arts (KHM) in Cologne, was awarded a Silver Lion for Best Short at Venice in September 2001. The Prix Canal + consists of the film's acquisition by the TV station.
  • On 19 January, 2002, the 8th International Slamdance Film Festival in Park City (11. - 19.01.02) awarded the prize for the best short feature in the shorts section to LURCH by Boris Hars-Tschachotin. The Slamdance Festival, which evolved as an alternative movement to the established Sundance-Festival, is regarded as an interesting forum for independent films and young filmmakers.
