Oskar Roehler has won the competition of the 20th Istanbul Film Festival (14.-29. April 2001) with his portrait of the writer Gisela Elsner. At the same time, the jury gave a special mention to the lead actress Hannelore Elsner.
The winning of the "Golden Tulip" is another success for NO PLACE TO GO which has since been shown at over thirty international festivals, including Cannes' "Quinzaine des Réalisateurs", Karlovy Vary, Toronto and Montreal. NO PLACE TO GO was awarded the German Film Award in 2000 in the categories "Best Feature Film" and "Best Lead Actress" and also brought director Oskar Roehler and lead actress Hannelore Elsner numerous prizes and distinctions outside of Germany as well.
Jan Schuette's Brecht portrait FAREWELL (ABSCHIED) also took part in the competition section of the Istanbul festival, which is reserved for films dealing with the art forms of music, theatre, literature, dance, painting or sculpture. A total of ten German films and coproductions could be seen this year in Istanbul.
