A total of 17 German films and German-international co-productions took part in the 21st Festival Internacional de Cine de Mar del Plata (9 -19 March 2006).

MOLLY'S WAY by Emily Atef made an impact in the Official Competition and was awarded the Jury's Special Prize.

Byambasuren Davaa's film THE CAVE OF THE YELLOW DOG (DIE HOEHLE DES GELBEN HUNDES) received the award for Best Direction in the Women and Film section.

The Festival Internacional de Cine Mar del Plata attracts a large audience and the scerenings are very well attended. In addition, it is a good meeting place for Argentina's filmmakers and those of the neighbouring countries. Festival director Miguel Pereira, who has been in office since 2003, has introduced a few organisational changes and improved the festival's reputation which had suffered somewhat in the past.
