MANY HAPPY RETURNS IN COMPETITION IN SHANGHAI

MANY HAPPY RETURNS IN COMPETITION IN SHANGHAI

There's no let up in the winning streak of German films at the International Film Festival in Shanghai. This is the fourth time in a row that a German film will be competing there for the Golden Goblet. The festival's 22nd edition is being held from 15 - 24 June, 2019. A German Focus is being held as part of the festival for the 16th year as a collaborative venture with German Films: 11 titles are being presented in Shanghai.

MANY HAPPY RETURNS tells the story of a separated couple who, despite strained relations, come together to organize a big birthday party for their son (7). While the children are gathering around cake and pinata, the parents are facing a crisis in the kitchen. Matthias, the stressed father, has cancelled the upcoming father-son weekend for the umpteenth time, including the promised visit to the zoo. At the end of the party, one of the little guests has not been collected. Director Carlos A. Morelli shows In captivating black-and-white pictures how part-time father Matthias comes to learn to recognize the needs of his own son through the helplessness of another child.

The documentary ESTÁ TODO BIEN by Tuki Jencque will be screening in the festival's Documentary Competition. The film focuses on the collapse of the health system in Venezuela and, in particular, on those people who are directly affected.

The Focus Germany will be opened by CLEO which had already been the opening film of the Berlinale's Generation Kplus sidebar. This year's German focus will also offer the festival audience the whole gamut of German filmmaking - from dramas like ATLAS, ENDZEIT - EVER AFTERSYSTEM CRASHER and SIRENS through to comedies like DIE GOLDFISCHE, COLD FEET, WHAT ABOUT ADOLF?, SWEETHEARTS and THE BRA and this year's box-office success ALL ABOUT ME.

Morelli will be presenting MANY HAPPY RETURNS together with the actor Mark Waschke and the producers Yvonne Wellie and Jonas Weydemann. Weydemann and Frauke Kolbmüller will be in Shanghai for SYSTEM CRASHER, also at the festival will be Carolina Hellsgård for ENDZEIT - EVER AFTER and Marleen Lohse for CLEO.
