JULIETTA – prize-winner in Giffoni and NOWHERE IN AFRICA – winner of the Mayor's Prize in Jerusalem

JULIETTA by Christoph Stark was awarded the Golden Griffin for the Best Feature Film in the sidebar „Rear Window“ for young people between 15 and 19 years at the 32nd Giffoni International Filmfestival (Italy, 20. - 27.07. 2002), one of the internationally most important events for children's and youth films. The love story with Lawinia Wilson and Barnaby Metschurat in the leads is set against the background of the Berlin Love Parade and focuses on the question of guilt and responsibility of its young heroes. JULIETTA had previously received the Romance Special Jury Award at the 35th Worldfest in Houston.


Moreover, another seven German films could be seen in Giffoni, including ENGEL + JOE by Vanessa Jopp, NO REGRETS (NICHTS BEREUEN) by Benjamin Quabeck and HELP I'M A BOY! (HILFE, ICH BIN EIN JUNGE!) by Oliver Dommenget.




NOWHERE IN AFRICA (NIRGENDWO IN AFRIKA) by Caroline Link was awarded the Mayor’s Prize for the Best Feature in the international competitive section „The Jewish Experience“ at the Jerusalem International Film Festival (18. - 27. 07. 2002).


The epic about the fate of a refugee family, who emigrates to Kenya in 1938 to build up a new existence there, received the German Film Award 2002 in the categories of „Best Feature Film“, „Best Supporting Actor“, „Best Direction“ and „Best Music“. It was only recently that NOWHERE IN AFRICA was awarded the Special Jury Award and the FIPRESCI Award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival 2002.
