JERUSALEM: FOCUS ON GERMAN-ISRAELI DIALOGUE

The 70th anniversary of the founding of the state of Israel is being marked by the country's leading film festival, the Jerusalem Film Festival (26 July – 5 August 2018), with various events to strenghten the collaboration between the two countries' film industries. German productions also have a prominent place in the festival program.

A total of 30 German films and co-productions have been invited to the 35th edition of the Jerusalem Film Festival. Christian Petzold will be honored with a retrospective. The director will be in attendance to present his latest film TRANSIT in a Q&A. This will be followed by international and German festival representatives, filmmakers, producers, distributors and representatives of the film funds coming together to network at the "German Dinner".

Projects with German partners were also selected for the Pitch Point, a project market for projects currently in production and seeking co-production partners. The CEO of funding organisation Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, Kirsten Niehuus, and Michael Weber, managing director of the sales company The Match Factory, are in the jury.

In addition, the festival's accompanying programme will include a round table with German and Israeli participants from the fields of funding, production, sales and distribution. Katriel Schory (Executive Director Israel Film Fund) will moderate a discussion about the opportunities for co-production between the two countries and the distribution of German films in Israel and Israeli films in Germany with such panelists as the CEO of the German Federal Film Board (FFA) Peter Dinges, Hans-Joachim Mendig (managing director of Hessen Film) and Kirsten Niehuus as well as producers and distributors coming from both countries.
