The 6th Marrakesh International Film Festival (1 - 10 December, 2006) ended on a successful note for German cinema last Sunday. The only German film in the festival THE RED COCKATOO (DER ROTE KAKADU), directed by Dominik Graf, won the festival's "Golden Star - Grand Prix". Actor Max Riemelt received the award for "Best Actor" for the same film.
At Tallinn's Black Nights Festival, which was being held at the same time, Sandra Hueller was named "Best Actress" for her role in Hans-Christian Schmid's drama REQUIEM. The Lithuanian-German co-production YOU AM I by Kristijonas Vildziunas was awarded the Jury's "Special Prize".
The Gijon International Film Festival came to a close at the beginning of December. Valeska Grisebach was delighted to have received two distinctions for her film LONGING (SEHNSUCHT). She won the award for the "Best Film" as well as the prize of the FIPRESCI Jury. The festival's "Enfant Terrible Preis" went to the German production URMEL AUS DEM EIS by Reinhard Klooss and Holger Tappe.
