German Films at the 13th Festival Mar del Plata (13.-22.11.1997)

A new and yet well-known place on the international festival map: it was back in 1954 when a film festival was founded in the major Argentine seaside resort Mar del Plata. It alternated with the festival in Punta del Este and soon won international recognition, but could not take place between 1970 and 1995 because of political and economic reasons. In 1996, resurrected after a break of 26 years, it established itself within a very short time as one of the most important film events of the South American continent.

The festival will present a total seven German films this year. Two productions are taking part in the international competition: Andreas Kleinert's MOTHER AND SON is being shown in the sidebar "Contracampo", while the documentary section will have a screening of DIE SALZMÄNNER VON TIBET by Ulrike Koch, which can be currently seen in German arthouse cinemas.
