IN MY ROOM by German director Ulrich Köhler (DE/IT, Pandora Filmproduktion, Komplizen Film) will be celebrating its world premiere in Un Certain Regard at the 71st Festival de Cannes (8 – 19 May 2018). In addition, Wim Wenders' documentary POPE FRANCIS – A MAN OF HIS WORD (IT/CH/DE/FR, Neue Road Movies) has been programmed in the Special Screenings. This was announced by the festival during today's press conference.

Moreover, the German co-production LAZZARO FELICE by Alice Rohrwacher (IT/DE/FR/CH, Pola Pandora) is in the Competition line-up. MY FAVORITE FABRIC by Gaya Jiji (FR/DE/TK, Katuh Studio) will be screening in Un Certain Regard.

The festival had already announced the films that have been selected for Cinéfondation's L’Atelier which gives projects currently at the development stage an opportunity to present themselves to potential partners. BLACK BOX by Asli Özge is in this year's line-up.

Mariette Rissenbeek, Managing Director of German Films: "A screening slot in Cannes is only bestowed on a very select number of filmmakers and is always a very special honor and distinction. So we are particularly delighted that two German directors will again be participating after the invitations extended to Ulrich Köhler and Wim Wenders. Congratulations to them and their teams as well as to all of the co-productions in the program!"

Ulrich Köhler's feature films BUNGALOW (Berlinale Panorama 2002) and WINDOWS ON MONDAY (Berlinale Forum 2006) were shown at numerous festivals and received prizes at home and abroad. SLEEPING SICKNESS had its world premiere in the Competition of the 2011 Berlinale and Köhler won the Silver Bear for Best Director. His new feature film IN MY ROOM, which sees him with a film in Cannes for the first time, centers on Armin, in his forties, who is a freelancer with lots of time and little money. He’s not really happy, but can’t picture living a different life. One morning the world looks the same as always, but mankind has disappeared.

Other films in Cannes' main program will be announced in the next few weeks. The line-ups for the independent sections of Semaine de la Critique and Quinzaine des Réalisateurs will be published on 16 and 17 April 2018.
