EXPLORING LIMITS: MULTIFACETED FILMS AT THE FESTIVAL OF GERMAN FILM IN PARIS

The 24th edition of the Festival du Cinéma Allemand in the French capital (2 - 8 October 2019) focuses on courageous, yet emotionally torn protagonists. Five directors and two actresses will be coming to France at the beginning of October to present their projects to the Parisian public in this showcase of the current German filmmaking.

In other words: 2019 will also see German filmmakers taking the opportunity to meet and talk with the audiences. THE AUDITION will open the festival in the presence of the director Ina Weisse and the actress Nina Hoss as well as the producer Felix von Boehm (LUPA FILM GmbH), and in cooperation with the French distributor and world sales company Les Films du Losange.

The director Mehmet Akif Büyükatalay will have an opportunity to talk with Parisian cinema-goers at the Q&As after two screenings of his film ORAY, and director Benjamin Pfohl will be presenting his film JUPITER as part of the NEXT GENERATION SHORT TIGER program.

SYSTEM CRASHER, which was selected by Germany for the 2019 Oscar® competition, THE COLLINI CASE and THE AUDITION are being shown as previews, while the director Thomas Heise will present his documentary HEIMAT IS A SPACE IN TIME in a special screening on Thursday to be followed by a discussion with the audience.

This year's festival sees the Goethe Institut in Paris curating a Focus dedicated to the actress Luise Heyer (FACE TO FACE WITH GERMAN FILMS 2019). She is represented by a diverse selection of films and will open the Focus program by presenting the film ALL ABOUT ME together with her director Caroline Link. Another three films featuring Luise Heyer will be screened during the festival.

An integral part of the festival are the screenings for schoolchildren and students, with more than 1,000 young cineastes expected to attend again this year from the Greater Paris and Ile de France regions.

A total of 13 feature films, two documentaries, four shorts, the NEXT GENERATION SHORT TIGER 2019 short film program, and the program for the very young - Ciné-Bretzel - ANIMAMINALS - will be shown in the L'Arlequin Cinema.
