The 35th Rotterdam International Film Festival came to an end on Sunday, February 5, 2006. The previous evening, the festival's € 7,500 Audience Award (the Tiscali Audience Award) was presented to Michael Hofmann's film EDEN.
EDEN already received standing ovations from an enthusiastic audience at its world premiere in Rotterdam's "Sturm und Drang" sidebar. The film also convinced the jury of Rotterdam's Lions Club straight away and they gave it the Lions Award which includes prize-money amounting to € 2,000.
Another success story was the sale of EDEN to the Dutch distributor Cinemien who will release the film into the cinemas in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.
The film was produced by Gambit Film- und Fernsehproduktion as a co-production with C-FILMS and SWR. It is the story of Eden, a married woman, who becomes addicted to the "Cucina erotica" of the eccentric master chef Gregor. Their platonic gourmet meetings jolt them both out of their humdrum lives and Eden's marriage blossoms. But nothing remains a secret for long in the little spa town and when Eden's husband Xaver samples the "Cucina erotica", he is forced to take action or else lose his wife.
