A maximum of Euros 50,000 per film and land can be applied for. The funding is awarded in the form of a conditionally repayable loan, funding amounts of up to Euros 10,000 can also be awarded as grants. This financial contribution should be used for the financing of additional measures on top of the release campaign which had already been planned.
A funding committee consisting of a member of German Films, a representative of the sales agents, and a member from the producers will decide on the applications submitted. The following persons were appointed as members of the committee: Christian Dorsch (German Films) as the chairman, Antonio Exacoustos (sales agent) and Harald Kuegler (producer).
The new program will be officially presented during the Cannes Film Festival on May 14, 2005 as part of the "Distributors' Cocktails".
The support program was made possible by the increase in the budget following the change of name by the Export-Union des Deutschen Films to "German Films" last year when the circle of shareholders and the duties of German Films were extended.
The chairman of the funding committee and the managing director of German Films, Christian Dorsch commented: "For some time now, German cinema has been on the upturn with international box-office successes like GOOD BYE, LENIN!, HEAD-ON (GEGEN DIE WAND) and DOWNFALL (DER UNTERGANG). This is the right moment to support this trend with a funding programme by enabling the greatest possible attention for German films abroad via the specific support of release campaigns."
As from now, the guidelines and the application form can be obtained from German Films and are also available as downloads from the website www.german-films.de/support
