OSCAR® NOMINATIONS FOR GERMAN SHORT FILM DIRECTORS

WATU WOTE - ALL OF US by the German director Katja Benrath (Hamburg Media School) has been nominated for an Oscar® in the Best Live Action Short category. Other nominations went to the German short film directors Jakob Schuh and Jan Lachauer, the film composer Hans Zimmer as well as to four German co-productions. This  was announced by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).

WATU WOTE - ALL OF US had already been awarded a Student Oscar in Gold in the Narrative (International Schools) category. The graduation film by the director Katja Benrath of the Hamburg Media School is set in Kenya which has been targeted for decades by the terror attacks of the Islamist Al-Shabaab. An atmosphere of fear and mistrust has been growing between the Christians and Muslims. Then, in December 2015 the passengers of a bus succeed in pulling off an unprecedented act of humanity. Katja Benrath will be a member of the selection jury for the NEXT GENERATION SHORT TIGER 2018 program of shorts organized by German Films and the FFA.

REVOLTING RHYMES, a British production of the German directors Jakob Schuh and Jan Lachauer received a nomination in the Animated Short Films category.

Hans Zimmer has been nominated in the Best Original Score category for DUNKIRK.

The German co-production LAST MEN IN ALEPPO by Fera Fayyad (DK/DE, Kloos &Co. Medienboard) is still in the running for the Oscar in the documentary category. The five nominated films in the Best Foreign Languuage Film category include the German co-productions A FANTASTIC WOMAN by Sebastián Lelio (CL/US/DE/ES, Komplizen Film) for Chile, LOVELESS by Andrey Zvyagintsev (RU/BE/DE/FR, Senator Film Produktion) for Russia as well as THE SQUARE by Ruben Östlund (SE/FR/DE/DK, Essential Film) for Sweden.

The Oscar awards ceremony will be held in the Dolby Theater in Hollywood on 4 March 2018.
