World premiere in Toronto, European premiere in the Competition of San Sebastian: SUBMERGENCE by Wim Wenders (DE/FR/ES, Neue Road Movies) and THE CAPTAIN by Robert Schwentke (DE/FR/PL, Filmgalerie 451) will be starting their international festival careers with presentations at two major festivals one after another. As previously announced, Wim Wenders latest feature film will open the 65th edition of the Northern Spanish festival (22 – 30 September 2017).

Overall, 15 German films and co-productions are programmed.

The screenings will also include the two German majority productions, ¾ by Ilian Metev (DE/BG, Sutor Kolonko) and SPELL REEL by Filipa César (DE/PT/FR/GW), in the Zabaltegi-Tabakalera sidebar which is dedicated to surprising films.

The short films FIND FIX FINISH by Sylvain Cruiziat and Mila Zhluktenko from the HFF Munich and NEWS 23/06/2016 by Elsa Rosengren from Berlin's DFFB were invited to the International Film Student Meeting where students of film schools from around the world will come together for screenings, discussions and master classes. A student jury will decide on the winners of the Panavision Award and the Agencia Freak Award.

Toronto International Film Festival's prestigious Special Presentations section is featuring Wim Wenders’ love story SUBMERGENCE with Alicia Vikander and James McAvoy in the lead roles and Robert Schwentke's dark hoax THE CAPTAIN which brought the director back to Germany again after his blockbuster successes in the USA. This section is reserved for outstanding films by prominent directors.
