The Toronto International Film Festival (7 – 17 September 2017) has announced the last titles for this year's program which will include yet another film by a German filmmaker. THE GARDEN by Sonja Maria Kröner (Walker + Worm Film) will have its international premiere in the Discovery sidebar which is reserved for first and second films. A total of 42 German films and co-productions have been programmed at North America's leading film festival - more than ever before.

THE GARDEN will be joined in Discovery by, among others, 3/4 by Ilian Metev (DE/BG), majority-produced by Sutor Kolonko from Germany, as well as GUTLAND by Govinda Van Maele (LU/DE/BE, Propellerfilm) with the German actor Frederick Lau (VICTORIA) in the lead.

Sonja Maria Kröner's debut feature film THE GARDEN received lots of positive feedback following its world premiere at the Filmfest München in July 2017 from the German and international press, including Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, and won the German Cinema New Talent Awards for Best Director and Best Producer.

A cross-generational acting ensemble including Thomas Loibl (TONI ERDMANN), Laura Tonke (HEDI SCHNEIDER IS STUCK), Ursula Werner (CLOUD 9) and Mavie Hörbiger (AXOLOTL OVERKILL) travel back to the summer of 1976. It's the height of summer. A heat wave. Everybody is sweating. The wasps are even more annoying than usual. The portrait of a family who spends the summer - like every summer - in their communal garden. The death of overbearing matriarch Sophie reveals fine cracks within the family's relationships and subtly changes the family dynamics. While the adults argue about the sale of the property, the children are free to roam the garden and the neighbourhood.

All of the German films and co-productions in Toronto 2017…
