Top German talent Martina Gedeck and Nicolette Krebitz are coming to Manhattan on behalf of German cinema. Expectations are running high among New York audiences about these distinguished guests as well as a diverse selection of new German feature films, documentaries and shorts and the first ever presentation of an interactive film experience at KINO! 2017 Festival of German Films (31 March – 6 April 2017).
New York City's Sunshine Cinema (Landmark Theatres) will serve as the venue for the event which is being organized by German Films to present 11 new German feature films that have all earned their laurels at major international Festivals as well as the NEXT GENERATION SHORT TIGER 2016 short films program.
The festival will kick off with Christian Schwochow's PAULA (DE/FR, Pandora Film Produktion, Grown Up Films) about the life of painter Paula Modersohn-Becker, who lived out her vision of artistic self-fulfillment and her romantic image of marriage and love. The director Nicolette Krebitz will discuss her film after the screening of WILD (Heimatfilm), while the multi-award winning actress Martina Gedeck will speak about her work after the screenings of ORIGINAL BLISS (Frisbeefilms, Cine Plus Filmproduktion, Senator Film) and THE VERDICT (Oliver Berben Produktion by MOOVIE). Producer Ulrich Limmer will be representing his film FOG IN AUGUST (DE/AT/FR, Collina Filmproduktion, Dor Film, STUDIOCANAL Film, ARRI Media, B.A. Produktion, Ernst Eberlein Filmproduktion).
The viewers will be able to interact with Lars Kraume's THE VERDICT by voting on the outcome of the TV film. Another special event will see the newly restored version of the silent film classic DESTINY by Fritz Lang being screened in association with Bertelsmann. Raphaël Marionneau, one of Europe's leading chill-out DJs, will provide a musical accompaniment to the screening.
The KINO!2017 Audience Award will be supported once again by the US-based VoD streaming service FANDOR which specializes in European arthouse cinema.
