BEYOND SILENCE - Best Film in Tokyo

BEYOND SILENCE by Caroline Link was awarded two prizes at the 10th Tokyo International Film Festival (1.-10.11.1997). In the framework of this most important East Asian festival, the film received - ex aequo with PERFECT CIRCLE by Ademir Kenovic - the main prize of the festival: the Tokyo Grand Prix for the best film of the International Competition. Caroline Link's debut film, produced by Jakob Claussen, Thomas Woebke and Luggi Waldleitner, succeeded against eleven renowned competitors, including "Brassed Off" by Mark Herman and "Career Girls" by Mike Leigh.

 

In addition, the jury of leading industry figures under the chairmanship of producer Saul Zaentz (incl. nine OSCARS for "The English Patient") also awarded the Prize for Best Screenplay to Caroline Link and the young American Beth Serlin who had worked together on the script for BEYOND SILENCE.
