| SHORT TAKE – THE GERMAN FILMS PODCAST – LET US ENTERTAIN YOU! |
Director Christian Alvart's episode of the German Films podcast SHORT TAKE premiered on August 6. His highly acclaimed series SLØBORN launched on ZDFneo on July 23 and has been providing TV viewers with lots of scary moments and goose bumps thanks to the references to the current situation of the pandemic. Entertainment guaranteed!

The series UNORTHODOX has just garnered 8 Emmy nominations. Aaron Altaras, who plays the role of Robert in the series, will be featured on the upcoming German Films podcast from 17 September on. We talked to him via Zoom during the hiatus of his current series WILD REPUBLIC.

| NEWS FROM GERMAN FILMS - TEAM CHANGES |
There's not only been a lot of change going on worldwide - the German Films team is also seeing some changes:
Eva-Maria Pellikan joined the team in August, taking over the areas of Communications and Marketing. She has previously worked in Film and TV marketing and publicity at Sony Pictures Entertainment and Tele München Group. She is the successor of Angela Hawkins, who is leaving German Films at the end of August.

| INTERVIEW WITH DIRECTOR MARIKO MINOGUCHI |
Mariko Minoguchi was born in Munich in 1988 to a Japanese father and a German mother. After finishing school, she completed internships and worked as an assistant in production, directing, cinematography and set design on more than ten TV and cinema productions. Several award-winning short films followed. In 2011, she founded the production company TRIMAPHILM together with Trini Götze and Philipp Trauer.
Her feature film debut RELATIVITY premiered at the Munich Film Festival in 2019 and had international premieres at the BFI London and the Warsaw Film Festival. After invitations to other national and international festivals, the film was awarded the German Film Critics' Prize for Best Debut and Best Screenplay in 2020 and was nominated in the Best Editing category at the German Film Awards.

| TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2020 |
New films, panels and interactive experiences will be presented at the Toronto International Film Festival from 10-19 September, 2020. The festival's 45th edition is reacting to the current situation triggered by Covid-19 and will be held on a smaller scale, both physically and digitally.

| REMINDER: CALL FOR ENTRIES FOR OSCAR® |
German Films calls on the rights holders of films to submit titles for consideration in the selection process for the German entry to the 93rd OSCAR® competition in the International Feature Film category (feature film, animation film, documentary film). If you would like to submit your film, you can do this by 2 October, 2020 at the latest. Further information can be found here.

STUDENT ACADEMY AWARDS 2020 Two films by students from German film schools are in the running for the three awards at this year's Student Oscars: ALTERNATIVE/EXPERIMENTAL PRISONERS OF THE BODY by Elisa Maria Nadal (University of Television & Film HFF) ANIMATION THE BEAUTY by Pascal Scheibli (Film Academy Baden-Württemberg) The awards ceremony is being held on 15 October.
SARAJEVO FILM FESTIVAL The award-winning drama EXILE by Visar Morina was screened in competition at the 26th Sarajevo Film Festival. It will was joined by the co-production ALL THE PRETTY LITTLE HORSES by Michalis Konstantatos. The CineLink Industry Days were held from 15-18 August, 2020 and the festival from 18-21 August, 2020. Morina took home the main prize of the festival for EXILE.
FILMART HONG KONG 2020 The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) will be staging the Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (FILMART) virtually this year. The FILMART ONLINE will be held online from 26-29 August, the EFP is organising a virtual umbrella stand with financial input from German Films. Ten German participants will be working from the stand – a total of 38 companies have registered, which is a new record.
SERIENCAMP Munich's SERIENCAMP festival dedicated to series is reacting to the current situation by launching a new tool for authors, filmmakers and producers. PITCHPOOL is a VOD platform with series projects at various stages of development being presented in practical short pitches. This will give creatives and producers from Germany, Europe and the rest of the world a unique chance to find new partners and investors for their series projects. PITCHPOOL will be available for more than two weeks as a comprehensive digital presentation and networking platform for the entire industry without the previous spatial and time restrictions of a conference.
