The bears are on the loose again in the German capital: the 67th Berlin International Film Festival – also known as the Berlinale for short – opens its doors on 9 February 2017. German cinema has a lot to offer at this important festival being held on its home turf at the beginning of the year: three German directors – Thomas Arslan, Volker Schlöndorff and Andres Veiel – are in the Competition, and new films by such directors as Matti Geschonneck and Jakob Lass are also screening in the program. Oliver Hirschbiegel and Marvin Kren will be presenting their series. German actress Julia Jentsch - part of the FACE TO FACE WITH GERMAN FILMS  campaign- will be in the International Jury.

The Perspektive Deutsches Kino sidebar provides a platform for the next generation of German filmmakers. German Films gives the filmmakers opportunities to forge contacts with international festival delegates and distributors. Films on the shortlist for the German Film Awards can be seen in the LOLA@Berlinale section (screening dates at the beginning of February on the Berlinale's website).
