Andreas Wunderlich was born in Ulm in 1961. In the 1980s, he was the publisher of an art magazine and studied Communications and Film Design. He worked as a cameraman for news and independent shorts and as a dialogue writer for a daily soap. He has produced and directed about 15 "no-budget" shorts and documentaries. His films include Schneegestoeber in der Ukraine (short, 1986), Das Meer (short, 1990), Joana (documentary, 1993) and his first feature Eduard's Promise (Fuenf-Uhr-Schatten, 1998).
