Marcus Lenz grew up in the Ruhr area and studied Communication Design at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen and at the UIAH in Helsinki. After receiving his degree, he went to the German Film and Television Academy Berlin and Studied directing and Cinematography under lecturers such as Bela Tarr, Wolfgang Becker, Slavomir Idziak, Michael Ballhaus and Mike Leigh. Since graduating from the DFFB, he has been directing and/or shooting both documentaries and feature films. A selection of his films includes: IMMER UND IMMER (short, 1997), ALLES IST NIE (short, 1998), DER GELBE FLUSS - LEBEN UND STERBEN IN HONGKONG (documentary, 2000), DEUTSCHE ANGST (2001), CLOSE (2004), 24 UTC - Die WELT UM MITTERNACHT (documentary, 2006), and THE RIVAL (2020).
