Martin Eigler was born in 1964 in Cologne. He studied German, Theater studies and Philosophy in Berlin, graduating with a Master's Degree in Theater in 1991. He then worked as a freelance television journalist before entering the German Film & Television Academy in Berlin (dffb). Among his credits are Gute Nacht Christine (short, 1993), Willis Requiem (short, 1994), Oktay Urkal (documentary, 1994) and Saduj (short, 1996). His 1997 short, 5 Minutes Ikarus won him second prize in the German competition of the Munich International Festival of Filmschools 1998. Trust Me (Freunde, 2000) was his graduation film. Since then, he has directed two episodes of the German Tatort-series.
