Maya, the curious little bee, is coming to the big screen for the first time! Aged 100 years but still as fresh as the day she first appeared, Maya, based on a series of children’s books and a long-running animated series shown around the globe, is one of the world’s most popular and well-recognized characters.

MAYA THE BEE features our heroine and her friend Willy saving their hive from the greedy queen’s advisor and ending the long-term hostility between bees and hornets. With her desire to be free and experience the world on her own terms as strong as ever, Maya refuses to follow the rules of the hive, one of which is not to trust the hornets that live beyond the meadow. When, however, the Royal Jelly is stolen, the hornets are blamed and Maya is thought to be their accomplice. No one believes or stands by her, except for her good-natured and best friend Willy. A long and eventful journey to the hornets’ hive, encountering new and interesting characters on the way, sees Maya and Willy discovering the true culprit and a happy end for all.

A 3D family film for 4- to 7-year-olds, their parents and grandparents, MAYA THE BEE is full of stunning imagery, celebrating nature’s beauty at its peak, using the latest CGI technology with its highly detailed textures and lighting effects to create a fantastic but also credible universe.

MAYA THE BEE will both look modern and have a contemporary narrative in line with current standards. At the same time it will maintain all due respect for the existing character and her literary and animated canon, with all the look, feel, charm and endearing qualities that have made Maya such a much-loved children’s and family favorite all this time, and also for the times and generations to come.
