German Films Quarterly 03/2012

Entrepreneur John Greystoke travels to remote Africa in search of a mineral cache that could revolutionize energy production. Accompanied by his wife Alice and their young son John, Jr., Greystoke explores a mysterious cave where he discovers an ancient meteorite, which he believes is the energy source he has been looking for. Greystoke also discovers something that fills him with both awe and fear. As a violent storm erupts, he and his family rush back to the helicopter to leave the jungle, but don’t make it far. A band of mountain gorillas discovers the wreckage and find only one survivor: the young child.

Kala, a gentle gorilla rescues the traumatized toddler who grows into a strong and independent young man known as Tarzan. All the gorillas accept Tarzan, except Tublat, the brutal silverback alpha male who sees the boy as a rival. Nearly ten years pass before Tarzan encounters another human: Jane Porter, a beautiful and intrepid teenager visiting Africa. Tarzan’s brief and chance encounter with Jane leaves him yearning for more contact with a creature more like himself.

More years pass before William Clayton, a charming but shrewd businessman, accompanies Jane on her return to Africa. He’s promised to fund her conservationist efforts, but little does Jane realize that her project is merely a convenient cover story to conceal Clayton’s true intentions to exploit the potential riches in the cave Greystoke discovered years ago. Jane, who has reconnected with Tarzan, discovers the truth and becomes a target for Clayton as well as Tublat. Tarzan must use his jungle instincts and human intellect to save his home and the woman he loves.

Based on the legendary stories by Edgar Rice Burroughs, TARZAN is a spectacular 3D motion-capture animation that will transport you into a magnificent safari adventure.
