GG 19

GG 19 consists of 19 short episodes, each one telling a story of instances where the constitutionally instituted German "Laws of Basic Human Rights" interfere, with often long-lasting impact, in the lives of its protagonists. Using a large variety of cinematic means such as comedy, drama, satire and science-fiction, GG 19 attempts to offer an entertaining and thought-provoking outlook on the German Constitution and its effectiveness or failure towards contemporary German society.

The original constitiutional text - the "Grundgesetz" abbreviated as GG on the customary paperback books issued in Germany - was instituted in 1949 by the four allied forces that had just defeated the Nazis. Unique in the history of its origins after the dark chapters of the German Nazi-Regime, the Grundgesetz was created in the ruins of World War II to obliterate any possibility of future dictatorships or any violation of human rights occuring on German soil ever again. This comprehensive commitment to Human Rights gave birth to a strong and meaningful wording of the Law. The legal wording of the Articles is as unambiguous and overreaching as hardly any other constitutional text still valid in the world.

GG 19 is a journey through Germany based on the first 19 paragraphs - The Basic Rights. The 20th paragraph of the Grundgesetz states: “He who sees his Basic Rights damaged or abandoned should arise and be given the necessary means to enunciate his grievances.” GG 19 is also an entertaining approach to democracy.
