Castle, The (Schloss, Das)

Surveyor K. tries to settle in a village ruled over by a mysterious castle, full of strange officials, with abstruse regulations and inexplicable moods, who insist on absolute obedience. The surveyor wants to contact this castle community, but to no avail. The closer he gets to his goal the more it retreats.


Rudolf Noelte was in 1921 born in Berlin and studied German Studies, Philosophy, Theater Studies and History of Art in his home town. He appeared as an actor on stage at the Hebbel Theater in Berlin and worked as a director for numerous theaters in Germany. Noelte directed several television films such as Irrungen, Wirrungen (1966), Der Zerbrochene Krug (1967), Der Kirschgarten (1970) and Die Ratten (1979). His feature films include The Castle (Das Schloss, 1968) and Dantons Tod (1981).
