Production Report featured in
German Films Quarterly 03/2014

After directing the WILD CHICKS franchise and the love story THE TASTE OF APPLE SEEDS, Vivian Naefe has returned to one of her specialities – the comedy genre – with a body switch comedy based on Brazilian filmmaker Daniel Filho’s 2006 box-office hit SE EU FOSSE VOCE.

“The difference here is that it isn’t a classic switch of bodies but rather one of two people’s souls,“ says producer André Zoch. “It is a story about a couple whose love for one another has gone stale after 15 years of marriage.“

Football coach Alex (Wotan Wilke Möhring) and psychologist Teresa (Mina Tander) are on the verge of divorce when an almighty row one night results in the unbelievable during a thunderstorm: their souls switch bodies, and the ensuing chaos is inevitable!

“When the souls swap bodies, Alex and Teresa come to see what the problem is and what they should have done,“ Zoch explains. “So, on the one hand, you have a very funny situation where a man is suddenly in a woman’s skin and vice versa. But there’s also an emotional level. That’s our aim, to make a film where couples coming to see the film will recognize aspects of themselves in the characters as they’ve experienced something similar.“

“There aren’t many directors in Germany who master the comedy genre, but Vivian Naefe is definitely one of them,“ he adds. “She is experienced in many different kinds of comedy and knows that humor is the result of a lot of hard work at the development stage and then during realization.“

If one is expecting flashy computer effects for the body switch sequence, then think again: “We won’t be having any special visual effects,“ Zoch says. “The transformation has more to do with the characters’ gestures, the way they walk, and the way they look. And they won’t be changing their voices after the switch of the souls.“
