Scene from "Soltau" (photo © Paul Pieck)

Juergen finds his greatest thrill in riding roller-coasters. But now he is terminally ill and he doesn’t have much time left. He decides to leave the hospital and go on his last trip to ride a roller-coaster at the "Heidepark Soltau", in the north of Germany.

His journey takes an unexpected turn when he runs over Quentin, Marie’s dog. Marie urges him to take her to the North Sea to bury Quentin. Overwhelmed with the situation, Juergen finally agrees to take her as far as Soltau. The situation becomes even tenser when Marie picks up Max at a gas station. The highly emotional and sexually confused teenager is on his way to Osnabrueck to a date. After some discussion, the three of them head off to Osnabrueck. Gradually Juergen finds himself driving further away from his final dream that has been replaced by the demands of his new makeshift family and a road that leads him to his final destination. An homage to the famous road movies of film history.
