Andreas Thiel was born in Duesseldorf in 1957. After his secondary schooling and studies at the Academy for Television & Film in Munich (HFF/M), he worked as an assistant director and
co-author for Bernd Schadewald. Having directed TV productions and smaller projects, Kismet is his first feature-length film. His other films include: Der Verfuehrer (1991), Scheidungsgericht (TV series, 1994), Aus heiterem Himmel (TV series, 1995), and Ein Fall fuer Zwei (TV, 1995).
