Peter Goedel was born in Torgau in 1945 and studied Literature and Drama, Art History and Philosophy in Cologne and Munich. He worked as a dramaturg and assistant director in the theatre and as an assistant director in television from 1972. He started making films in 1974 and received a German Film Prize in 1988 for The Greenhouse (Das Treibhaus). His films also include Talent Contest (1981, documentary), Ortelsburg - Szczytno. Once upon a time in Masuria (Ortelsburg - Szczytno. Einmal in Masuren, 1990), Trip to Tunis (1993), 50 Years Cannes Film Festival (1996, documentary), Tangiers (Tanger, 1996).
