Kirsi Marie Liimatainen was born in Finland in 1968 and studied Theater and Drama at the University of Tampere. From 1991 to 1999 she worked as an actress in films, television and theater in Finland. From 1999-2006 she studied Directing at the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF. She participated in the Résidence du Festival Cannes as well as the residence programs of CÉCI, Binger Film Lab, Torino Film Lab and Saari of the KONEFoundation. Her films include: MODLICHA (doc, 2001), THE TIME OF THE SPRING (2002), SONJA (2006), FORTRESS (2011), ALAVILLA MAILLA HALLANVAARA (mini-series, 2011), and COMRADE, WHERE ARE YOU TODAY? (doc, 2016).
