Maris Pfeiffer was born in Dueren in 1962 and studied at the Academy for Television & Film (HFF/M) in Munich. She received prizes at the short film festivals in Cracow and Berlin in 1988 for her directorial debut Nachts (1988) and has since made Kinderkram (short, 1990), Kamera: Juergen Juerges, BVK (documentary short, 1990), Krieg den Arsch hoch (environmental ad, co-directed with Imogen Kimmel, 1990), and Ein Ort, Ein Selbstmord (documentary short, 1993), which was part of the omnibus film Neues Deutschland. Kuess mich! (1996) was her first full-length feature film. After that, she made Freunde wie wir (TV, 1996), Die Liebesdienerin (TV, 1999), and Lieb mich! (TV, 2000).
