ROAR OF THE SEA, THE

An African refugee, whose identity is unknown, is being interrogated in prison. He refuses to speak and eat, he seems traumatized. When the prison guard finds a hidden photograph he decides to help the refugee, even if it means risking his own job. But time is running short and the deportation machinery is already in full play.


Ana R. Fernandes was born in Cape Verde in 1971. She worked as a teacher in her home country, before moving to Germany to study Architecture. She attended post-graduate film studies at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy. She works as a freelance scriptwriter, director, dramaturge and set designer. Together with Torsten Truscheit, she has directed several award-winning documentaries, including THE NINTH SPRING (DER NEUNTE FRÜHLING, 1999), IN THE NAME OF THE PEOPLE (IM NAMEN DES VOLKES, 1999), RABELADOS (2001), FIGHTING FOR CUSTOMERS (DER KAMPF UM DEN KUNDEN, 2003), and GOLFO POPULAR-THE STORY OF THE BLACK LORDS (2012). Their short fiction film THE ROAR OF THE SEA (DAS RAUSCHEN DES MEERES, 2010) was shortlisted for the 2012 Academy Awards in the Best Live-Action Short Film category.

Torsten Truscheit was born in 1966. He studied Media in Siegen and traveled to several African countries. After studying and working in the USA and Cuba, he was a student at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy. He works as author, director, cinematographer, dramaturge and editor. Together with Ana Rocha Ferndandes, he has directed several award-winning documentaries, including THE NINTH SPRING (DER NEUNTE FRÜHLING, 1999), IN THE NAME OF THE PEOPLE (IM NAMEN DES VOLKES, 1999), RABELADOS (2001), FIGHTING FOR CUSTOMERS (DER KAMPF UM DEN KUNDEN, 2003), and GOLFO POPULAR-THE STORY OF THE BLACK LORDS (2012).
