(Restored Weekend)

A fictitious “restoration” inspired by Walter Ruttmann’s 1930 audio play Weekend, the first ever abstract sound collage. Whether Ruttmann ever thought about adding pictures to his work is a question that remains unanswered.

Gerd Gockell was born 1960 in Darmstadt. From 1980-1987 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brunswick. He then worked as a freelance animator for the Hessische Rundfunk in Frankfurt. In 1988 he moved to London and worked on several film projects. In 1990 he founded anigraf film production with Kirsten Winter in Hanover. He has had numerous teaching appointments since 1992, including at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brunswick, Ngee Ann Polytechnics in Singapore, the Academy of Fine Arts in Kassel, and the Film University Babeslberg KONRAD WOLF. From 2002-2011 he was Head of the Animation Dept. at the University of Applied Science and Arts in Lucerne/Switzerland, where he also founded Gerd Gockell Filmproduktion. Kirsten Winter was born in 1962 in Hanover and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Braunschweig from 1981-1987. Since 1990, she has been making commercials, teaching films, and artistic films. She has taught at numerous international art academies, including the California Institute of Arts since 2004. A selection of her works includes: Clocks (1995), Smash (1997), Just in Time (1999), Kandinsky's Violet (2000), Circus S (2000), Escape (2001), Restored Weekend (2003), and Filmolog (2003).
