Wild Chicks and Life (wilden Huehner und das Leben, Die)

Wild Chicks and Life
© 2009 Constantin Film

A class trip to an idyllic castle nestled in a lush countryside? Most kids would see it as a welcome opportunity to have fun, play pranks and plot romantic rendezvous. But other than Trude, who's developing a crush on Steve, the Wild Chicks aren’t in the mood for any of the above. Sprotte is upset and confused that her Fred wants to rush their “first time”. Melanie has been in a foul mood for days now, and won’t tell her friends what’s wrong. Is she having problems with her boyfriend Willi? Trying to mediate between the two, Frieda starts falling in love with Willi herself! Wilma can’t think of anything but her acting career. And to top it all off, Sprotte’s mom is going along on the trip as bus driver! The chicks and their male counterparts couldn’t be bothered with exploring the wonders of nature – they’re over their heads in exploring the wonders of young adulthood. And this means letting go of cherished friends and comforting rituals as well as accepting their own and others’ failings and strengths. In the end, the Wild Chicks come back from their class trip a little bit wiser, and a lot readier to face the facts of love – and life!

Director Vivian Naefe wraps up her successful ‘Wild Chicks’ cycle with the most mature, moving and turbulent adventure yet. Based on the characters made popular by best-selling author Cornelia Funke, the third ‘Wild Chicks’ film sparkles with wit and humor, even though it’s tinged with melancholy as the girls bid farewell to their clucking clique – yet vow to remain friends for life.

Vivian Naefe studied at the University of Television & Film in Munich from 1978-1982. A selection of her films includes: GETTING A LIFE (2003), WAVES (2005), THE WILD CHICKS (2006), WILD CHICKS IN LOVE (2007), THE WILD CHICKS AND LIFE (2009), THE TASTE OF APPLE SEEDS (2013), and numerous TV movies.
