Production Report featured in
German Films Quarterly 02/2014

“O death, where is thy sting?” is the question posed in 1 Corinthians, 15:55 (King James Version). “Right here” is the answer!

Pushing all the correct genre buttons including that all-important appearance by the great Lance Henrikson, STUNG is the heartwarmingly uplifting story of what happens when Mrs Perch's annual elite-society garden-party is crashed by some very unwelcome visitors; a swarm of killer wasps. As befits a genre film, they have also just happened to mutate into man-sized predators, but what else can you expect when the gardeners have been using illegally imported compost on the begonias? Cue mayhem, mutilation and an ever rising, extremely gnarly death toll while Paul and Julia, two young catering assistants, battle for their lives and, at the same time, battle even harder to get a grip on their stumbling romance and finally confess their feelings for one another before one or both die a screaming, blood-drenched death.

Starting life as the winning entry of the 2011/2012 competition by German production company Rat Pack Filmproduktion, called SCHREIB UM DEIN LEBEN (Translation: “Write for Your Life”), STUNG springs from the disgustingly awesome minds of American writer Adam Aresty and director Benni Diez.

Launched at the AFM 2012, STUNG immediately secured a multi-territory pre-buy from independent distributor EOne, which includes, among others, the UK, Canada, Germany, France and Scandinavia. Since then other territories have also been closed but maybe, just maybe, yours is still available. If so, and you are still looking for the best man-versus-killer-insect-movie in a long time, here it is.
