Lights From Afar (Lichter aus dem Hintergrund)

Lights From Afar

Berlin, the German capital once again, a few years after the fall of the Wall. A city undergoing radical change, changing the lives of its inhabitants at the same time. A young photographer experiences this as a break in his life. He faces an uncertain, disquieting future. He feels like a stranger in his old city. What is his place in this society - whose rules he does not want to learn - just like those of the old GDR? Like his friends from the generation of the "wall children", he tries to find a new identity without losing his old one.

Helga Reidemeister was born in Halle/Saale in 1940. She studied Fine Art at the College of Fine Arts in Berlin and worked as a restorer after her graduation in 1965. Working as social worker in the 1960s, her inspiration turned to film. She studied at the German Film & Television Academy (DFFB) in Berlin from 1973-1978 and began making documentaries in 1971. (1979), WITH THE EYES FIXED ON THE MONEY (1983), WALKING TALL: RUDI DUTSCHKE – TRAILS (1988), RODINA MEANS HOME (1992), GOD’S CELL – A WOMEN’S PRISON (2001), TEXAS–KABUL (2004), WAR AND LOVE IN KABUL (2008), and S H A T T E R E D AFGHANISTAN (2013).
