SOUNDS FROM THE FOG is the new award-winning documentary feature by the German author & director Klaus Stanjek. He tells the odyssey of the gay musician Willy Heckmann in Nazi-Germany and post-war-times.

An entertaining detective story across the author’s own family. The mysterious musician, captured in concentration camps, encircled by taboos and denial. German repression of distressing thoughts and memories, covered in a suspense-packed personal journey – with unique animated sequences.

Klaus Stanjek studied Psychology and Biology with an emphasis on Anthropology. After traveling across Europe, Africa, Asia, and North and South America, he was engaged in cross-cultural research from 1974-1979 at the Max Plack Institute and earned his PhD. He then studied Documentary Film from 1979-1983 in Munich and became an instructor for documentary film techniques and aesthetics. He set up his own production company, CINETARIUM, in 1983. Since 1994 he has been a professor for Documentary Directing at the "Konrad Wolf" University of Film and Television and conducts international workshops, among others, in cooperation with the Iranian Film Academy. A selection of his films includes: CHRISTIANIA (1977), MENDZANG BETI (1981), WATERLORDS (1985), TWILIGHT (1990), CHILDREN OF UTOPIA (1999), YEAR OF THE FISHERMAN (1999), COMMUNE OF BLISS (2004), and SOUNDS FROM THE FOG (2013).
