Peanuts

Peanuts

Deep in debt, the unsuccessful Frankfurt building contractor Jochen Schuster decides in future to be just successful. When he is turned down once more for credit by Peter Hackmann, the head of the credit division, he decides to change his life. He leaves his old Mercedes diesel behind and takes a luxurious rental car, slithers out of his shabby rags into a made-to-measure suit, puts on a toupée and simply asks for more credit from his bank than he actually needs. And, all of a sudden, everything seems to work. He buys stylish old buildings, dilapidated German cultural assets that he wants to save from decay. Everyone can build, Schuster says to himself, but art has priority over profits. Spurred on by his success, Schuster soon imagines himself as the greatest builder of all time. But Schuster isn't content to keep things modest and gradually gets too big for his boots....it is only a question of when he will come down to earth again.
